Carlo Ancelotti poised to return with Paris St-Germain

Carlo Ancelotti is on the verge of returning to football at Paris St-Germain. The Ligue 1 leaders are expected to confirm on Thursday that he has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract which will establish him as the highest paid manager in the French league.
Ancelotti, who will replace Antoine Kombouaré, spent Tuesday night in Paris before arriving at Parc des Princes on Wednesday afternoon alongside the French club's sporting director, Leonardo. The former Chelsea manager, who was sacked at Stamford Bridge last May despite winning a league and cup Double in his first season in the Premier League and finishing as league runners‑up in his second, will earn a net annual salary of around €6m (£5m).

The Italian won two Champions League titles during a successful eight‑year spell in charge of Milan but, having initially been placed on gardening leave after leaving his position at Chelsea, he has now reached agreement over compensation for the final year of his contract in London and is free to join another club. Ancelotti's instinct had been to remain in England, preferably in the capital, though PSG, backed as they are by Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), represent a tantalising and ambitious alternative.
The French club still hope to secure the free transfer signing of David Beckham once his contract at Los Angeles Galaxy expires at the end of the month and they could confirm the arrival of the former England captain while he is on a five-day mid-season training break in Qatar and Dubai next week. Ancelotti worked with Beckham briefly at Milan during the midfielder's first loan spell at San Siroand will seek to be reunited with a number of his former players in the mid-winter transfer window as he adds to PSG's options.-  http://www.guardian.co.uk/

Ligue 1 - PSG linked to Malouda

France winger Florent Malouda is thinking of leaving Chelsea with reports saying Paris St Germain is his preferred destination as rumours grow that Carlo Ancelotti is set to take over the Ligue 1 leaders.

Malouda has mainly been on the bench for Chelsea this season and with his spot in France's Euro 2012 squad under threat, the 31-year-old may push for a move in the January transfer window.
"I'm not getting enough playing time. It's too limited for the ambitions I have. I can't be happy with that. If it is necessary, I will leave," Malouda, who joined Chelsea from Olympique Lyon in 2007, was quoted as saying by French media on Tuesday.

The Parisien said Malouda was interested in joining PSG and his former Chelsea coach Ancelotti, who reports suggest was set to take over with Antoine Kombouare poised for the sack despite leading the French standings.
PSG, who are also in talks to bring David Beckham to France in January, issued a short statement last week saying only that they were having "serene discussions" with Kombouare.
Pundits took that to mean his days are numbered as his low profile does not fit with PSG's ambitious Qatari owners.Sporting director Leonardo worked with Ancelotti at AC Milan and reports say a deal in principle had been agreed with the Italian, who previously said he wanted to work again in England.-http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com

Ligue 1 - Paper Round: Beckham agrees Paris move

David Beckham will become a Paris St Germain player in the New Year, according to Wednesday's papers.

The news comes from respected French sports daily L'Equipe, which reports that though nothing is yet official the move has been agreed on both sides.Beckham will link up with the big-spending Qatari-backed club in January and could make his debut in a Coupe de France match on January 9th. He will be paid 200,000 euros a week (£167,000) and will see those wages bolstered by scooping all the revenue from a merchandising agreement with the club.

Back to the British media, and Wednesday's papers report that Steve Kean is a dead man walking after defeat by Bolton on Tuesday night left Blackburn Rovers at the bottom of the Premier League table.
And the Daily Mirror claims that former Rovers boss Mark Hughes is already being lined up to take over the reins at Ewood Park.

Venky's had apparently "already decided that Steve Kean would have to go before last night's loss", the paper reports. Blackburn will lure Sparky - who has been out of work since walking out on Fulham this summer - with a £1 million Premier League survival bonus.- http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/

Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev completes purchase of Monaco

The 45-year-old has finally concluded his takeover of the fallen giants, whom he vows to plough at least €100 million [£837,000] into over the course of the next four years

Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev has completed his buy-out of Monaco, the French Ligue 2 club have confirmed.

The tycoon, who spearheaded Monaco Sports Investment, becomes the majority shareholder of the Montecarlo-based outfit, after purchasing 66.67 per cent of the club, while the remaining 33% will remain in the hands of the current ownership.

The MSI have also promised to to invest 'a minimum of at least 100 million [£837,000]' over the next four years, following Prince Albert II's approval of the takeover.

Rybolovlev is currently listed 93rd on the Forbes rich list after selling his fertiliser producer Uralkali for €5 billion [£4.5bn] in June 2010.

Monaco are currently rock-bottom of the second tier in France, three points adrift of safety after a sharp fall from grace since their appearance in the 2004 Champions League final against eventual winners Porto.

PSG 'crowned' autumn champions

After watching all those around them slip up, Paris Saint-Germain's win in Saint-Etienne ensured that they would end 2011 on top of the table, handing them the symbolic title of autumn champions.

The capital club largely owed their narrow win at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard to another excellent defensive display. Goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu in particular was superb, keeping a third consecutive clean sheet as the visitors ran out 1-0 victors courtesy of a first-half header from Mathieu Bodmer.
The result ensured that PSG go into the winter break three points clear at the top of the table, and even Antoine Kombouaré, who has had to put up with endless speculation as to his own future, appeared determined to enjoy his Christmas.

'Heads held high'
"Being autumn champions does not really mean a great deal but it is also important," said the coach afterwards. "We have shown that we can be consistent and that we can work hard. We can go off on our holidays with our heads held high and with the feeling that we have done a good job."
The title of autumn champions may often be dismissed in France as merely incidental, but Lille sat on top halfway through last season before going on to finish in first place. Indeed, in the last nine seasons since Ligue 1 returned to being a 20-team competition, the autumn champions have gone on to win the title outright on five occasions. At the very least, history suggests that Paris can look forward to a top-three finish.

'Insipid'
It remains to be seen just who their rivals will be in the New Year though, with Montpellier surrendering first place after slumping to a second successive away defeat, going down 4-2 at Evian. René Girard's side led twice through Younès Belhanda (47') and a 13th of the season for the division's top scorer Olivier Giroud (54'), but former Montpellier man Cédric Barbosa (52'), Saber Khlifa (68'), Cédric Cambon (71') and Brice Dja Djédjé (75') all netted for last season's Ligue 2 champions.
For Evian it was a fourth straight home win, but for Girard it was a night to forget as he moaned: "We have not been good enough for three games now. Against Toulouse we fought hard, tonight we were insipid. I didn't like what I saw at all."- http://www.ligue1.com

Antoine Kombouare fired by Paris Saint-Germain - report

The side from the French capital were crowned 'winter champions' on Wednesday night but that was seemingly not enough to spare their under-pressure coach from the sack

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly fired Antoine Kombouare as coach - less than 24 hours after leading the club back to the top of Ligue 1.

A source close to the 48-year-old has told AFP that Kombouare was informed of his dismissal on Wednesday, the same day that the capital outfit were crowned 'winter champions' on the back of their 1-0 victory over Saint Etienne.

"Antoine was informed he was being sacked today by Leonardo," the source revealed, before adding that Kombouare's coaching staff had also been fired.

Kombouare's future has been the subject of much debate in recent months, with the club's Qatari owners said to have been unhappy with the return on their summer spending spree and, in particular, their failure to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

A number of high-profile coaches have been linked with the role, including Carlo Ancelotti and Frank Rijkaard, while only last month Al Jazeera, who have close ties with the club, reported that Rafael Benitez had agreed to take over.

PSG's players have repeatedly voiced their support for their under-fire coach but it now seems that his two-year tenure is set to come to an end, with an official announcement regarding his position expected on Thursday afternoon. - http://www.goal.com

12BET France League News Update 12/22

Auxerre leave it late to make point

Auxerre scored twice in the final ten minutes to snatch a 2-2 draw at home to promoted Dijon. AJA sub Issam Jemaa netted the equaliser in added time.

This Burgundian  basement battle began brilliantly for Benjamin Corgnet and Dijon. A mere seven minutes had elapsed when Dijon top scorer Corgnet notched his seventh of the season, the goal laid on a platter for him by Brice Jovial, who had caused consternation in the home defensive ranks.

Corgnet’s goal made history as the first in a match between the two clubs. Dijon coach Patrice Carteron appreciated that as much as he was furious with the 2-1 home loss to Saint-Etienne in Week 18.
A third away win looked on the cards for Dijon when Jovial scored in the 33rd minute, controlling  a Thomas Guerbert pass on his chest and cracking the ball low past Olivier Sorin.
Auxerre have made public their interest in bringing Djibril Cissé back to the club and how Laurent Fournier’s side needed goals in the second half, having seen their efforts flounder on Dijon’s last line of defence, Baptiste Reynet.

Former Liverpool forward Anthony Le Tallec came on for Auxerre midway through the second half and ten minutes from time Le Tallec gave Fournier’s side hope, heading home a corner which Reynet had come for and missed.Jovial was carried off on a stretcher with what looked like an injured ankle before Auxerre’s equaliser, scored by Jemaa at the back post with Dennis Oliech doing the spade work.
Both Dijon and Auxerre have 19 points, one above the relegation zone at the season’s halfway point.- http://www.ligue1.com

David Trezeguet considering move to River Plate, says agent

The World Cup-winning Frenchman has been linked with a move to the Argentine giants, with contact already said to have been made between the player and the club

Former France international striker David Trezeguet is considering a move to Argentine side River Plate, according to his agent.

Having been released by Emirati club Bani Yas in November, the 34-year-old is believed to be interested in a move to the South American giants.

There are several clubs interested in a transfer but David [Trezeguet] is a River [Plate] fan and he wants to wear their shirt."

Known best for his time at Italian powerhouse Juventus, Trezeguet has more recently featured for clubs such as Monaco and Hercules. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Buenos Aires, however, and started his career at River's close neighbours Platense before moving to France.

River Plate president Daniel Passarella is now hopeful of bringing the experienced striker to Argentina, with the duo reportedly having spoken about the transfer over the phone. - http://www.goal.com

Mandaric talks 'fantastic' gesture

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric was "incredibly touched" by a huge banner of support which was unfurled by fans during the weekend win at Oldham.

The banner, which spread across the whole width of the away end at Boundary Park housing almost 4,000 travelling supporters, read: 'The city is ours - Xbajia Milan', which means 'thank you' in Mandaric's native Serbian.
Mandaric told the club's official website: "I'm so incredibly touched by this gesture. It's fantastic to know that I have the appreciation and recognition of the supporters to what we are all working so hard to do at Sheffield Wednesday."
He added: "This is what gives me the energy and enthusiasm to do as much as I can for our club."
"I'm fond of my time at Portsmouth and I also have great appreciation of my time at Leicester too, but this was a special touch and I truly appreciate the efforts of these wonderful supporters.
"I have the photograph and I will be having it framed for my office at Hillsborough." - http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com
