Antoine Kombouare fired by Paris Saint-Germain - report

The side from the French capital were crowned 'winter champions' on Wednesday night but that was seemingly not enough to spare their under-pressure coach from the sack

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly fired Antoine Kombouare as coach - less than 24 hours after leading the club back to the top of Ligue 1.

A source close to the 48-year-old has told AFP that Kombouare was informed of his dismissal on Wednesday, the same day that the capital outfit were crowned 'winter champions' on the back of their 1-0 victory over Saint Etienne.

"Antoine was informed he was being sacked today by Leonardo," the source revealed, before adding that Kombouare's coaching staff had also been fired.

Kombouare's future has been the subject of much debate in recent months, with the club's Qatari owners said to have been unhappy with the return on their summer spending spree and, in particular, their failure to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League.

A number of high-profile coaches have been linked with the role, including Carlo Ancelotti and Frank Rijkaard, while only last month Al Jazeera, who have close ties with the club, reported that Rafael Benitez had agreed to take over.

PSG's players have repeatedly voiced their support for their under-fire coach but it now seems that his two-year tenure is set to come to an end, with an official announcement regarding his position expected on Thursday afternoon. - http://www.goal.com
