Ligue 1 - Fernandes leaves St Etienne again

Udinese have announced the signing of Switzerland international Gelson Fernandes on loan until the end of the season. Fernandes, 25, had spent the first half of the season on loan at Championship club Leicester City but struggled to make a notable impact and asked to leave.He has wasted little time in arranging to join Udinese on loan from St Etienne, meaning he swaps a second-tier English club for one just two points off the title pace in Serie A.Udinese are losing three midfielders to the African Cup of Nations - most notably Kwadwo Asamoah - and Fernandes arrives to compensate for the impact of the tournament.The Italian club wanted a player who could acclimatise quickly and the fact Fernandes spent last season on loan at Chievo Verona made him an attractive option.Udinese hope to have Fernandes available for Sunday's Serie A fixture against Cesena.- http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com
